MINISTRIES
Worship
Worship is literally "worth-ship." It is reminding ourselves how wonderful God is by telling him how wonderful he is. We do this as we sing, as we pray, as we give, and as we listen to the teaching of God’s Word every Sunday morning at 11:00, and every Sunday evening at 7:00. Worship is a profoundly serious and yet outrageously joyful endeavor, so we try to do it with devout delight at First Baptist Church. Some of us feel free to raise our hands to heaven during singing and prayer, or to say "Amen!" during the preaching. Others are more reserved in their expressions of worship. Either way, we have just one end in view: to say to the one, true, living, triune God, "You are worthy!"

Prayer
The church meets every Wednesday night at 7:00 to pray. Oh, there’s usually a brief Bible study in there somewhere . . . but our primary business on Wednesday nights is meeting with God. You see, he is our Source, our Hope, our Help, our Father, and our Delight. There’s nothing quite like spending time with each other and with him in prayer. For those who need a few quiet moments alone with God in the darkened, lovely stillness of our historic sanctuary before services start, the building is open from 6:30 until 6:50. The third Wednesday of each month is a very special meeting, in which all the major issues facing the church are discussed and decided upon.

Sunday School
It’s not just for children! It’s for every person who wants to learn more about God by studying his Word, the Bible, in a small-group context. In Sunday School, needs are addressed, friendships are forged, prayers are lifted up, and people touch God and each other. We’re bullish on Sunday School at First Baptist, and eager for every person to find the spot where he fits. Sunday School is at 9:30 every Sunday morning.

GRACE
Because we know what a powerful outreach tool Sunday School is, we train Sunday School
members in how to make the most of their opportunities to reach out to people they meet,
and touch them with the grace of God. Central to this training is the learning of a simple
yet comprehensive presentation of the basic Christian message, based on the letters of
the word “grace.” We dream of the day when every member of the church will be actively
involved in the Sunday School, and continuously committed to learning how better to share
the message that is the power of God to salvation.

G.Y.M.
We believe that all little children, even babies, receive a blessing from godly care, teaching, and singing. So in our nurseries, our trained child care workers (we like to think of them as “trainers”) work hard to share the truth and love of God with our kids. We dare parents to help us maintain a high standard of caring excellence in our ministry, embracing our vision of godly child care and training. After all, our children are indeed “God’s Young Masterpieces.”

Kids in Discipleship
Our KIDS IN DISCIPLESHIP come together to KNOW and GROW in the JOY of the LORD! Being Spirit led, children are guided to a personal, saving relationship with JESUS CHRIST. We commit to nurture and develop faith in God both individually (personal) and collectively (church body). Our children’s ministry team meets this great challenge and blessing through Bible study, prayer, missions, music, crafts, games/activities, and snacks.  We meet Sunday and Wednesday from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the exception for the 3rd Wednesday of each month. Third Wednesday is DINNER and MOVIE NIGHT. On these nights we meet 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. for pizza, soda, Bible movie, snacks, Adventure Quiz, prizes, and activities.  Our motto is: REAL GOD, REAL LOVE, REAL LIFE

Youth Ministry    new page!
At First Baptist, we’re all too aware of the pressures on our young people in this brave new world. Although they are pulled in many different directions by many different forces, we’re convinced of one thing: the glory of God is more alluring than anything our society has to offer. So at the heart of our youth ministry is one simple aim: we want our teens to know God. Fun is fine, and we see to it that our teens have plenty of it. But what will keep a kid from the world’s clutches is for that kid to become entranced with the joys and beauties of God himself. Knowing and serving him is a risk-taking behavior we’re happy to encourage! Our youth, grades 7-12, meet on Sunday mornings for Sunday School, and on Sunday and Wednesday nights at 7:00.

Men's Ministries
The men of FBCD enjoy a robust camaraderie in the things of God. We meet for a time of fellowship and Bible study every month, and team up to do physical ministry whenever we're needed. We also try to get away for a men’s retreat at least once a year, and we usually make it to at least one Promise Keepers event each year.

Women's Ministries
The women of this church work and pray and study and celebrate together all the time. The Women's Missionary Union continues to play the central role in fostering missions awareness and involvement among our ladies. Add into the mix a few other women’s events each year, and you end up with a bunch of sisters with a powerful passion for joy in God’s glory.

Senior Adults
Our senior adults’ department is the largest department in our Sunday School. And our older members maintain a lively fellowship in many other contexts as well. Why our modern culture prefers youth and inexperience over age and wisdom, we don’t. We’ll have no part in such silliness. Our elder brothers and sisters are among our most precious resources

Music
Our choir is fifteen or so people who love to sing, and who love to lead out in congregational singing. We also have a small group of talented musicians who have put together a praise team called “Chosen to Praise,” to help in our Sunday night services. There’s also a sister or two in our midst who are intensely interested in putting together a children’s choir. All of these musical teams are looking for God’s plan and power in their ministries, and always looking for more hearts and voices to sing glad praises to the Most High God.

Discipleship Training
Many Sunday nights at 5:30, small groups of us will meet for more intentional and intensive study of some aspect of the Christian faith and life. See our News page for specific information about what’s going on right now in Discipleship Training.
